KOA is back in Tellico Plains! After months of applications, property reviews, owner interviews, and location evaluations, we are thrilled to announce that KOA has accepted and welcomed us into their network of campgrounds. Chris and I remain the same owners and operators, but now with the support of a much larger network and access to even more campers.
As the 2024 season came to an end, we knew it was time to make changes for future growth. In November, we attended a campground owner’s conference in Oklahoma City with three goals in mind—none of which originally included becoming a KOA. But after learning more, it became clear that this transition was the right step forward.
Of course, the hardest part is saying goodbye to the name and logo of Mecca Camp Resort. We poured our hearts into the marketing, branding, and social media presence to make our small, independent campground stand out. Honestly, it feels like we are losing a big part of our identity (and I do look better in Tennessee Orange than KOA Yellow).
However, transitioning to Tellico Plains / Cherokee NF KOA is what’s best for our community and our business. Since moving here in 2020, we’ve had big plans for this property. To reach those goals, we need the support of a recognized brand like KOA. Their reputation and reach will bring more travelers to the area, benefiting not just our campground but also the local businesses and residents of Tellico Plains and Monroe County.
What This Means for You
New & Improved Amenities: We have exciting expansion plans! Early summer will bring a new septic system, dump station, four deluxe tent sites, and eight full hook-up RV sites. Looking ahead to 2026, we will add even more full hook-up RV sites, a laundry facility, and two deluxe cabins.
Better Booking & Rewards: With KOA, we are upgrading our reservation system and integrating KOA Rewards, so you can enjoy even more perks and discounts when staying with us. If you’re already a KOA Rewards member, your discount will be applied automatically.
No Changes to Existing Reservations: If you’ve already booked with Mecca Camp Resort, don’t worry—your reservation remains unchanged. You can even continue booking as Mecca Camp Resort for now to lock in our current rates!
A Season of Celebration: We will officially reopen on April 1, 2025, as a KOA. To mark this new chapter, we’re planning a grand reopening event this summer—stay tuned for details!
