Julia and I spent the majority of our time traveling between Maryland and Nebraska for family and work-related activities this week. Although we spent the week traveling, work still progressed on the Mecca Camp Resort!
Our insurance became active for hosting campers and we officially are open for business to host Boondockers. What's a Boondocker you might ask... Urban Dictionary defines Boondockers as, "A person (or persons) who enjoy the outdoors away from modern society and whom visit National Forests and open land in their quest for freedom and solitude. The mode of travel can be anything on wheels and if so driven they may as well have solar panels to aid in off grid traveling and visiting locations."
We are truly excited to begin hosting Boondockers and in our quest to do so are partnering with an online booking service called Harvest Hosts. Our property will begin advertisement on their web site this week and we will soon be adding additional partnerships for advertising our services in Tellico Plains, TN.... "The Little Town With A Big Back Yard!"
Camp Store
In preparation for hosting Boondockers, we are working to get our Camp Store operational this week, which will also serve as Julia's office. I completed the flooring last week in the building, which you saw in my previous Blog Post, but have now begun to fill out the store with equipment and Julia has started to set up relationships with wholesalers to populate our store with amenities. Additionally, we have identified several woodworking projects for my Dad to begin building, which will be sold in the camp store.
Land Planner / Architect Selected
Big News! We have selected a Land Planner to design our dream RV Resort! We have selected Morello & Associates to develop the Master Plan for our RV Resort and will host Jake Morello at our property on October 1st to begin the process. Over the weekend, we signed the contract and look forward to an exciting relationship with him and his firm to see our dreams come true. Under consideration for the Master Plan includes:
- 50 full-service camp pads for varying length RVs.
- Pool
- Water feature
- Stage / Music Venue
- Common Gathering Area
- Walking Path
- Dog Walking Area
- Dog Grooming Station
Additionally, we will be fully renovating one wing of the commercial building to accommodate bathhouses, restrooms, changing rooms, and a pool house.
We Must Be Crazy
As you can tell... although we traveled all week, we still managed to make progress down on our big adventure, which has been fantastic. However, one additional adventure has also been in the works for us for quite a while, which is why we must be crazy! We have always said... "Go Big Or Go Home!"
This week, we picked up the fully-restored cab and doors for a 72 Chevy K10 Side-Step Truck we have been restoring. This is the truck that Julia learned to drive while her brothers threw hay bales in the back while kids on the farm. It's been a long process, but this weekend we saw a major piece come together and now have a fully-restored cab to sit on the restored frame with a re-built a Chevy 350 Small Block. We have been rebuilding the truck from the ground up slowly, but big pieces are now coming together and we are truly excited.
Closing
We look forward to keeping you posted next week on our adventures! By next week we look to see progress towards our Master Plan, fulfillment of our camp store and much, much more! Stay Tuned!
From our family to yours, God Bless You and keep you happy, healthy and safe!
